Security and Theft
We would like to take a moment to encourage you not to bring valuable personal items to school. We have been experiencing numerous incidents of theft on our school campus. Things such as cell phones, i pods, hand held play stations, cameras, and large amounts of cash are highly desirable items. These items are sometimes taken out of backpacks when students are moving though the campus. Other times these items are stolen from the lockers. We have also experienced theft in our music department leaving students without instruments to participate in the classroom instruction and performances. We are taking steps to make our buildings more secure, but the potential for theft will always exist. It is very important to remember that the school is not liable for personal property, therefore we suggest you not to bring valuable items to school. We also encourage you to purchase a master lock for your P.E. locker. This will keep your clothing and books safe while you are in your P.E. class. Thank you for your attention and cooperation in this matter.

Student Lockers Removed
Lockers at Piedmont Hills were removed this past summer in response to many safety issues and concerns that happened over the past years. This was discussed by the school safety committee and school site council and the decision was made by administration to have them removed. Vandalism, theft and the storage of contraband created an environment that is not desired in an educational environment. While lockers are designed to help store textbooks and personal belongings, we have found that they have presented a safety issue at PH.
We understand the concern of students carrying heavy backpacks and at this time we are not able to provide class sets of books for every subject. However, there are a limited number of courses that are able to provide class sets and others that do not require students to bring the book everyday. With the first week of school now behind us, we are seeing the immediate impact of the removal of lockers. Students may be receiving books for various classes on the same day and teachers are not quite in their normal routine. As the year progresses, you will find that students will not carry all books everyday. Please contact Traci Williams with any questions regarding this issue.
